MINING companies have joined hands in lending help to the millions of victims of Typhoon Yolanda in the Visayas.

Here in the Davao Region, the Kingking Gold Copper Project based in Pantukan, Compostela Valley donated half a million pesos worth of goods for the survivors in Tacloban City.

The Philippine Mine Safety Environment Association and the Pusong Minero Foundation will transport the donations to Tacloban City on Wednesday.

Clyde Gillespie, country manager of the KGCP, said they hope that their simple donation would somehow alleviate the difficult situation the typhoon victims are experiencing at the moment.

"Well we saw the devastation brought by Typhoon Yolanda. So many people without homes or food or means to care for their families. So working with Pusong Minero and the Philippine Mine Safety Environment Association, we were able to identify trucks that are going to Tacloban. So we can load the goods into the trucks and provide some relief to the families in need," Gillespie said.

One hundred sacks of Banaybanay rice, 250 boxes of mineral water, canned goods and other provisions were segregated into 2,500 bags of relief packs to be distributed to the typhoon victims.

Last year, the mining company also helped the victims of Typhoon Pablo in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental.

The Pusong Minero conducted a medical mission in Laak town and distributed food relief.

After the onslaught of Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities in 2011, the KGCP also donated cash assistance for the affected media practitioners there.

Gillespie said that they are looking for future opportunities to help the typhoon victims rebuild their lives.
